A nostalgic quick mash that is perfect for a busy weekday, or any day as comfort food.
Recipe steps from Mealie.
Boil one and a half liters of water in a kettle.
Peel the potatoes and cut into small cubes of no more than 2cm.
Wash the potato cubes to remove the starch.
Peel the carrots, cut in half and slice into smaller pieces.
Boil the potatoes in a pot with the pre-boiled water for about 12 minutes. Add the carrots after about 7-8 minutes and let it cook for another 4-5 minutes.
Heat some oil in a large pan and once hot, add the sausages. Fry for about 8-10 minutes until golden brown, turning frequently.
Drain the potatoes and carrots in a large colander.
Return the potatoes and carrots to the pot and add the milk.
Mash everything until smooth but with rough bits of carrot.
Season the mash with salt and pepper.
If using, make a gravy by mixing some of the gravy granules with hot water.
Serve the mash with the sausages and gravy.
